As we all know, diabetes is a chronic health condition caused due to abnormal increase in the blood glucose level. This increased blood sugar leads to certain health complications over a period of time such as heart disease, kidney problem, vision disorder and damage of the nerves. In order to combat these severe health risks, the most important precaution for a diabetic patient is to control diabetes by stabilizing the blood glucose level.

A well-planned diabetic diet helps maintaining the blood sugar level for a long term. According to medical researches, the healthy tips for lowering glucose level are drinking ample amounts of water, consuming cinnamon, ginseng herb, apple cider vinegar and cutting down salt intake as well as regular exercise. Apart from this, there are certain healthy recipes, which can be enjoyed by diabetic patients.

Healthy Recipes

A healthy recipe depends on the age, activeness, current health condition and medications of the patient. For example, a young or an adult diabetic patient will require more calories than an older patient who is comparatively less active. Keeping this in mind, the diabetic diet should be planned with proper medical supervision.

Green Pea and Split Pea Soup


1 cup chick pea
1 cup green pea
¼ cup mint leaves
1 teaspoon fresh marjoram leaves
5 spring onions (sliced)
3 cloves garlic (minced)
4 cups chicken broth
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
1 tablespoon low-fat yogurt
One pinch each of salt and pepper


Take a large sauce pan and heat vegetable oil. Add spring onions and garlic and fry for about 2 minutes. Pour chicken broth and add the remaining ingredients – chick pea, green pea, mint leaves, marjoram leaves and salt. Bring the mixture to boil and shimmer for about 25 minutes. Blend the soup in a mixer for 2-3 minutes. Again pour the mixture into the saucepan and heat for about 5 minutes. Serve the chick pea and green pea soup with yogurt and pepper.

Lime Chicken


4 chicken breasts halves
Juice of 2 lemons
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
½ cup white wine (optional)
A pinch of black pepper


First of all, cut the chicken breasts into thin slices of about 1 cm thickness. Add lemon juice and pepper to the sliced chicken pieces and marinate for about 2-3 hours in the refrigerator. Then, heat a frying pan and melt the butter. Saute the marinated chicken pieces by turning occasionally, until they are cooked well. Meanwhile heat the white wine on a saucepan and pour over the cooked lime chicken. You can serve this chicken dish during the main course as well.

Fruit Salad


1 medium-sized mango (peeled and sliced)
1 pawpaw (peeled and sliced)
2 kiwi fruits (peeled and sliced)
1 tablespoon fresh mint leaves (chopped)
¼ cup of apricot nectar
2 tablespoons lime juice


Take a large bowl and combine together the ingredients – apricot nectar, lime juice and mint leaves. Stir well and add all the fruit slices. Toss the mixture well and refrigerate for about 45 minutes. Remove the fruit salad and serve it chilled.

With these healthy diabetic diet recipes, you can enjoy your daily meals without sacrificing the food taste. One word of advice is to eat smaller meals for several times a day, rather than consuming heavy meals at a time. Changing the eating habits and consuming diabetic recipes and dessert will help in controlling the blood sugar to a normal recommended level.
